What to expect on your CD

I generally include 3 folders, one marked cmyk tifs for print, one that is rgb jpegs for screen and the third is a slideshow.

Each computer is different in how it handles images, I have heard from some clients that their computer's image programs have automatically opened up the slide show images as well. I work on a Mac, so I have different programs than you have, and can't predict what your computer does. You may see very tiny images - DON"T WORRY! These are just thumbnails that your image viewer is seeing, you do have much larger images on this disk.

CMYK for press (or print) The professional print makers I use only want the higher resolution tif files, (300 dpi) as do any press people - such as magazines or brochure producers. These files are the the cmyk color space which is used by all professional press printers. There are labs who require 300dpi images in the RGB color space, let me know what your printer needs and I can supply the correct file. These large images are saved as .tif files, which do not compress and lose image data.

The RGB jpegs for screen are usually what the photo stores can handle for printing. The files are 72 dpi at 8.6" x 12.9". If your printer needs a different size, please let me know their requirements and I will supply the appropriate image files. These images pretty much fill your computer screen, so you may want to use these for your sales presentations.

These RGB jpegs are good for your website, but generally, if the image is going to be made much smaller than what you see on your screen, it is a good idea to resize and resharpen the image in Photoshop. If your web person is NOT resharpening the images after shrinking them, let me know what size you need your image, and I will send you the correct size and sharpened image.

My slide show can be opened by doubleclicking the folder to open it, then doubleclicking on the file marked "index.htm". This file will then start the slideshow in your browser. The slide show images are small, which work well for a web slide show, they don"t take so long to download.

There are a myriad of different file types and each end user has his own specs, so please contact me anytime you need something different than what I"ve supplied. I know that this can be confusing!

And if you want to just let me get the prints made for you, that's not a problem either. Print quality can vary from one lab to another and one machine operator to another. Some of my clients are happy with the prints they get from Sam's or Walmart, I have had mixed results from Wolf Camera. Which is why for my personal work I spend the extra bucks and get the professional quality prints from a pro lab - I"ve never had a problem there! It's a bit more expensive, but since it saves me so much in time and aggravation, it's worth it. You also have a choice of a great variety of paper and canvas surfaces, which are fantastic for display prints.
